Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Coastal Communication(“we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects information about you when you use our services, visit our shop, or interact with this website.

Who we are

Coastal Communication is a mobile phone, tablet and laptop repair shop based at 4 North Street, Scarborough, YO11 1DF. For any privacy-related questions, please contact us at hello@coastalcommunication.co.uk or 01723 500050.

What information we collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Contact details you give us — name, phone number, email address — when you bring in a repair or send an enquiry through our website.
  • Device details — make, model, IMEI, and a description of the problem. We need these to quote and carry out the repair.
  • Passcodes — only when you provide them so we can test the repair. We never keep them after the device is returned to you.
  • Payment information — processed directly by our card terminal provider. We do not store card details on our systems.
  • Website analytics — anonymous usage data (pages visited, device type) to understand how our site is used.

How we use your information

We use your information only for the following purposes:

  • To identify your device and carry out the repair you’ve asked us to do.
  • To contact you about your repair (quote, updates, ready to collect).
  • To honour our 90-day warranty on work we’ve completed.
  • To keep basic records for VAT and accounting purposes.
  • To reply to enquiries sent through our website contact form.

We do not sell your information to third parties, we do not use it for marketing, and we do not add you to any mailing lists.

Your data on your device

Wherever possible we carry out repairs without needing to access the data on your device. On occasions where we do need to — for example to test a screen repair or check camera functionality — we only view what’s strictly necessary, and never copy, share or extract any of your personal data, photos, messages or contacts.

Please back up your device before bringing it inwhere you’re able to. While we take every care, repairs inherently carry a small risk of data loss and we cannot be held responsible for data that was not backed up in advance.

How long we keep your information

Repair records are kept for the duration of the 90-day warranty period plus two further years for tax and accounting purposes, after which they are securely deleted. Website enquiries are kept for 12 months unless they lead to an ongoing conversation.

Cookies

Our website uses only essential cookies required to deliver the site and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can clear cookies from your browser at any time.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Ask what information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct information that’s wrong.
  • Ask us to delete your information (subject to our legal record-keeping obligations).
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

To exercise any of these rights, get in touch with us using the contact details above. We aim to respond within 7 working days.
